One System. Cooling and Heating.
A heat pump is a single piece of equipment that cools your Pearland home in summer and heats it in winter, using electricity instead of gas. In our climate they are an exceptional fit. Mild winters mean a heat pump rarely has to work hard, and the federal tax credit on qualifying systems makes the math even better. We install, service, and replace heat pumps including the new variable-speed inverter systems.
- Up to $2,000 federal tax credit
- Variable-speed inverter options
- Free in-home assessment
- 10-year parts warranty
What's included in a Heat Pumps
Heat pumps work well in Pearland because we rarely see prolonged temperatures below freezing. The system pulls heat out of outside air (yes, even cold air has heat in it) and moves it inside. In summer, it runs the cycle in reverse and acts as a regular AC. Here is what we cover.
Heat pump installation
Full new system installs for new construction, additions, or homes converting from gas. We handle the load calculation, equipment selection, electrical, and air handler. Outdoor unit set on a level pad with a winter cover for the rare ice storm.
Heat pump replacement
Like-for-like replacement of an aging heat pump. Most Pearland heat pumps last 12 to 15 years. We replace the outdoor unit and the indoor air handler as a matched system, with the AHRI certificate on the quote.
Heat pump repair
No cooling, no heating, ice on the outdoor unit, defrost cycle stuck on, reversing valve issues. Diagnostic fee is $89 weekdays, waived if we do the repair. Most repairs handled same day.
Variable-speed inverter heat pumps
Modern inverter heat pumps from Trane, Lennox, Carrier, and Mitsubishi cycle from about 25 percent to 100 percent capacity, which means they run longer at lower output, dehumidify better, and use less electricity. They are the quietest residential systems on the market.
Backup heat strips and gas backup
Pearland heat pumps usually need a small electric heat strip for the rare days below 35 degrees. We size and install them correctly so you have backup capacity without paying to run them when you do not need to. Hybrid systems with gas backup are also an option for the most efficient possible setup.
Annual maintenance
Heat pumps run year-round, which means they need maintenance twice a year (spring and fall). Comfort Club covers both visits, including the reversing valve check and defrost cycle verification.
Is a heat pump right for your home?
Heat pumps are not the right call for every home, but they are the right call for a lot more Pearland homes than people realize. If most of these apply, ask us for a heat pump quote alongside your traditional AC quote. We will run both numbers honestly.
- You do not currently have natural gas to your home
- Your gas bill is high in winter and you want to cut it
- You are replacing both the AC and the furnace at the same time
- You want to qualify for federal energy tax credits
- You have solar panels and want to maximize what they offset
- You want a single system instead of separate AC and furnace
- You are doing a major renovation or new construction
- You want the quietest residential cooling and heating available
How a visit works
Five steps. No surprises. Same on your first call as your fiftieth.
-
Free in-home assessment
A comfort advisor walks the home, runs Manual J load calculations, and looks at the electrical service to confirm capacity. Heat pumps need 200-amp service in most cases. Most assessments take 60 to 75 minutes.
-
Heat pump quote alongside traditional
We give you a side-by-side comparison of a heat pump system and a traditional AC plus gas furnace setup. The 10-year cost of ownership often favors the heat pump in Pearland, especially with tax credits and rebates factored in.
-
Permit, install, commissioning
City of Pearland permit pulled, install scheduled (most done in one day), refrigerant lines pulled into deep vacuum, refrigerant weighed in, electrical and thermostat configured for heat pump operation. Reversing valve verified in both modes.
-
Tax credit and rebate paperwork
We give you the AHRI certificate and the documentation you need for the federal tax credit and any utility rebates. The current 25C credit is up to $2,000 for qualifying systems. We do not file your taxes for you, but everything you need is in the install folder.
What Pearland neighbors are saying
"Replaced our old AC and gas furnace with a Trane variable-speed heat pump. Quieter, lower bills (about 30 percent on heating), and the federal tax credit dropped the install cost by $2,000. House is more comfortable than ever, especially the humidity in summer."
"They quoted us a heat pump and a traditional setup side by side. Showed the math both ways. Heat pump won by about $4,000 over 10 years, and we got the tax credit. Honest, no pressure."
"Heat pump was acting up in January. They diagnosed a stuck reversing valve, had the part on the truck, fixed it in about 90 minutes. Glad we did not call somebody who has not seen one before."
Frequently asked
Do heat pumps work in Pearland winters?
Yes, very well. Pearland average winter low temperatures stay above 40 degrees most of the season, and modern heat pumps maintain efficiency well below freezing. The handful of nights per year that drop below 30 are handled by a small backup heat strip or gas backup. Pearland is one of the best US climates for heat pumps.
How much does a heat pump cost in Pearland?
Installed prices range from about $7,500 for a basic single-stage 14.3 SEER2 system to $16,000 or more for a high-end variable-speed inverter system. The average install we do in Pearland is between $9,500 and $12,500. After the federal tax credit (up to $2,000) and any utility rebates, real out-of-pocket is often $7,500 to $10,500.
How does a heat pump compare to a traditional AC plus furnace?
Heat pumps cost slightly more upfront than equivalent AC plus furnace, but you eliminate the gas furnace entirely and only run one system year-round. Operating costs in Pearland tend to be lower with a heat pump because Texas natural gas heating in mild winters is not very efficient. The federal tax credit on heat pumps is also typically larger than on AC alone.
Are heat pumps quieter than regular AC?
Variable-speed inverter heat pumps are dramatically quieter than single-stage equipment, often 55 to 60 decibels at the outdoor unit, which is conversation level. Single-stage heat pumps are about the same noise level as a single-stage AC.
What is the federal tax credit?
The 25C residential energy efficiency credit covers up to 30 percent of installed cost on qualifying heat pumps, capped at $2,000. SEER2, EER2, and HSPF2 minimums apply. The system we quote will have the certificate showing it qualifies. Always confirm your tax situation with your accountant.
Do I need to upgrade my electrical panel?
Sometimes. Heat pumps draw more electrical current than gas furnaces. If your panel is 200 amps and not already loaded up, you are usually fine. 100-amp panels often need an upgrade. We check during the in-home assessment and quote any electrical work transparently.
Can I keep my gas furnace as backup?
Yes, this is called a dual-fuel or hybrid system. The heat pump handles cooling and most of the heating, with the gas furnace kicking in only on the coldest days. It is the most efficient possible setup and a good fit if you already have a working gas furnace.
