The Right Thermostat, Wired Right.
A smart thermostat is only as good as the wiring behind it. We install Nest, Ecobee, and Honeywell smart thermostats with the C-wire your system actually needs, configure them for your equipment (single-stage, two-stage, heat pump, or dual-fuel), and walk you through the app before we leave. About 1 in 4 DIY smart thermostat installs we replace was wired wrong, which is why your AC was short-cycling.
- Nest, Ecobee, Honeywell certified
- C-wire install included
- Heat pump configured correctly
- App walkthrough on every install
What's included in a Smart Thermostats
Here is what is included on a smart thermostat install. The hidden value is the wiring and the configuration, not the box on the wall.
Pre-install equipment check
We confirm your existing thermostat wiring, your HVAC equipment type, and whether you have a working C-wire. We tell you the right thermostat for your system before we order, not after.
C-wire installation if needed
About half of Pearland homes do not have a C-wire (the constant 24V power line a smart thermostat needs). We pull a new C-wire from the air handler, install a transformer, or wire in a power adapter. No hacks, no batteries that die in 6 months.
Equipment-specific configuration
A smart thermostat configured wrong for a heat pump or two-stage system will short-cycle the equipment. We set the equipment type, stages, heat pump reversing valve polarity, lockouts, and minimum cycle times in the installer menu.
App setup and home WiFi
We connect the thermostat to your WiFi, register it in the manufacturer app, and walk you through schedule setup, geofencing, and energy reports. We do not leave until it works on your phone.
Disposal of the old thermostat
Mercury-bulb thermostats from older installs go to proper disposal, not in your trash. We take them with us at no charge.
Multi-zone and multi-system installs
Two thermostats? Three zones? We coordinate the installs and configure them so the schedules and the geofencing make sense across the whole house.
Reasons to upgrade
A good smart thermostat saves 8 to 15 percent on heating and cooling in Pearland, but only if it is wired and configured correctly. Here are the situations where it pays back fastest.
- Old non-programmable or mercury thermostat
- Existing programmable thermostat is hard to use and you ignore the schedule
- You have a heat pump and an old thermostat that does not handle it well
- You travel often and want remote control
- You want energy reports to see where your money is going
- You added solar and want to optimize HVAC against your production
- You replaced your AC or furnace and the new system has features the old thermostat cannot use
- A previous DIY smart install is glitchy or cycling oddly
How a visit works
Five steps. No surprises. Same on your first call as your fiftieth.
-
Pick the right thermostat
Nest, Ecobee, or Honeywell are the three we install most often. Each has tradeoffs. We help you pick based on equipment type, the smart-home ecosystem you already have (Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Alexa), and budget.
-
Schedule the install
Most installs are done in 60 to 90 minutes. We can usually do them same-week, often same-day for current customers and Comfort Club members.
-
Install, configure, test
Wiring, C-wire if needed, equipment configuration, WiFi setup, app pairing, schedule programming. We test heating and cooling before we leave to confirm both modes work and the cycle times look right.
-
Walkthrough
We show you the app, the schedule, the energy report, and how to override it. Nobody likes a smart thermostat they cannot work, and a 5-minute walkthrough fixes that.
What Pearland neighbors are saying
"Tried to install a Nest myself and the AC started short-cycling. Clear the Air came out, found the C-wire was not connected, ran a new one from the air handler, and reconfigured the thermostat for my two-stage system. Works perfectly now."
"Ecobee install with two remote sensors. They explained the differences between brands and recommended this one for our heat pump. Walked me through the app and showed me how to set up the schedule. Great experience."
"Replaced four old thermostats across two systems. Everything in one app now. Energy bills are noticeably lower this month."
Frequently asked
How much does a smart thermostat install cost?
Installed price is $99 plus the cost of the thermostat itself ($129 for a basic Honeywell, $200 to $280 for a Nest or Ecobee). If you do not have a C-wire and we need to pull one or install an adapter, add $75 to $150 depending on the run. We give you the all-in number before we start.
Will any smart thermostat work with my system?
Almost. Heat pumps, dual-fuel, and high-stage systems are pickier than single-stage AC plus furnace. We confirm compatibility before installing. Ecobee and Honeywell tend to handle complex systems best. Nest works on most setups but has a few edge cases.
What is a C-wire and why does it matter?
C-wire is a constant 24-volt power line from the HVAC equipment to the thermostat. Smart thermostats need constant power for the WiFi radio and screen. Older homes often did not run a C-wire. Without one, you get glitchy WiFi, dead batteries, and short-cycling. We install one when needed.
Do smart thermostats really save money in Pearland?
In our experience, 8 to 15 percent on cooling and heating bills, depending on whether you used to run the AC 24/7 or had a programmed schedule already. Geofencing (the AC sets back when you leave the house) accounts for most of the savings.
Nest vs. Ecobee vs. Honeywell, which is best?
Nest has the best display and learning algorithms but the fewest installer settings. Ecobee has the most installer flexibility, multiple room sensors, and is the best fit for complex systems. Honeywell T-series is the workhorse for landlords and rental properties because it just works. We will recommend the right one for your setup.
I tried to install one myself and now my AC short-cycles. Can you fix it?
Yes. We see this often. Usually it is a wiring mistake, an installer setting that was not configured for your equipment type, or a missing C-wire that the thermostat is trying to compensate for by stealing power. We can usually fix it on a single visit.
Will it work with my heat pump?
Yes, all three brands handle heat pumps, but the configuration matters. The reversing valve polarity (O or B), auxiliary heat lockouts, compressor minimum-on times, and stage delays all need to be set correctly. We do this every time. A heat pump on a misconfigured thermostat will run the heat strips way too often, which is expensive.
Can I have multiple thermostats on one app?
Yes, all three brands support multi-thermostat households on a single app. Useful for two-system homes or downstairs and upstairs zones. We set this up at install time.
